macOS 12 or later. Live wallpapers, widgets and pets need a Mac that supports Metal; picture and video wallpapers work on any Mac.

Common questions

A wallpaper keeps playing, or pauses, when I don’t want it to

Settings › Wallpaper › Playback decides what wallpapers do while another app is full screen, while the Mac is on battery, while windows cover the desktop and while another app plays sound.

How do I make DesktopEngine use less energy?

Lower Settings › General › Frame Rate Limit. Content that can’t be seen already stops drawing, everything pauses while the displays sleep, and on battery widgets and pets draw at up to 30 frames per second.

How do I turn off sound?

Each wallpaper, widget and pet has its own volume. Mute All Content, in the menu bar item or in Settings › General, silences everything.

How do I open DesktopEngine at login?

Turn on Open at Login in Settings › General.

Where is the screen saver?

The screen saver comes with the version downloaded from this website. The Mac App Store version doesn’t include it.

How do I make my own wallpaper, widget or pet?

Read the developer documentation. Problems with the SDK can be reported on GitHub.

How do I uninstall DesktopEngine?

Quit it and move DesktopEngine from Applications to the Trash.
