Privacy Policy

DesktopEngine doesn’t collect anything that identifies you. There are no accounts, no advertising and no tracking. The app sends anonymous usage data, which you can turn off; this website counts visits anonymously, without cookies.
The app
- The pictures, videos and mini programs you add, their settings, and anything a mini program saves stay on your Mac. The app doesn’t send them to us or to anyone else.
- To learn which features are used, the app sends anonymous usage data: what you do in it, such as setting a wallpaper, adding a widget or changing a setting; how many wallpapers, widgets and pets are on your desktop and of which kind; the names of the built-in ones; the versions of the app and macOS, the Mac model, language, time zone, and the number and size of displays. It’s tied to a random identifier made on your Mac, not to you, and never includes your pictures, videos or files, their names, or what a mini program you added is called or shows.
- The usage data is processed for us by PostHog in the United States and kept for up to a year. PostHog uses the IP address of the connection to estimate an approximate location (country and city) and then discards the address; it isn’t stored.
- You can stop sharing usage data in Settings › General › Privacy. The app then sends nothing, and deletes the data it hasn’t sent yet and its random identifier.
- The app contains no advertising or crash reporting code.
- The built-in wallpapers, widgets and pets don’t use the internet. A mini program from another creator may ask for network access; it only gets it if you allow it, and you can take it back in the mini program’s Permissions. It then connects to the servers its creator chose, and that creator’s privacy policy applies.
- If you share analytics with Apple, Apple may pass crash reports to us, as described in Apple’s privacy policy. We use them only to fix bugs.
This website
- desktopengine.app counts visits with PostHog: the pages you open, the links and buttons you click, where on the page you click and how far you scroll, the page you came from, your browser, operating system, screen size and language, how fast the page loads and responds, and errors in the page or its built-in wallpapers, widgets and cat. The code you write in the editor and its errors are never sent. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser for this; PostHog tells visits apart with a hash made on its servers that changes every day, so no one can follow you across days or other websites. The data is processed in the United States and kept for up to a year, and PostHog discards the IP address after estimating an approximate location from it.
- Your language and light or dark choice are kept in your browser’s local storage and never leave it. The live wallpapers, widgets and cat run in your browser.
- The site is hosted by GitHub Pages, which may log visitors’ IP addresses for security, as described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
Children
DesktopEngine collects no data that identifies anyone, children included.
